A Milestone for Albania’s Defense and Technology Industry
The development of SHOTA, Albania’s first armored military vehicle, marks a major achievement for the country’s defense sector. For the first time, a high-level platform has been fully designed and built locally, demonstrating the strength of domestic engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
Developed by TIMAK, a 100% Albanian company specializing in advanced and customized vehicles, SHOTA proves that Albania can produce military equipment that meets high international and operational standards.
Presentation at EUROSATORY 2024 – Albania on the International Stage
In 2024, the SHOTA prototype appeared at EUROSATORY in Paris, one of the largest and most prestigious exhibitions in the defense and security industry. The event brought together leading manufacturers, government officials, and NATO representatives from around the globe.
At the exhibition, which featured around 2,000 companies from over 60 countries, TIMAK became the first Albanian company to represent the nation with a fully domestically produced product. This presentation positioned SHOTA as a serious project and showcased Albania as an ambitious new player in the global defense market.
TIMAK – Expertise in Practical Defense Solutions
TIMAK has earned a strong reputation by developing specialized vehicles for multiple sectors, including defense, security, civil emergencies, and advanced logistics. The company focuses on solutions that are technically advanced and operationally reliable.
Practical Design Philosophy
SHOTA embodies this approach. Engineers designed the vehicle to meet stringent technical requirements while performing effectively in real-world operational conditions. This ensures safety, mobility, and mission adaptability.
SHOTA – A Modern MRAP Vehicle Built for Operational Reality

Crew Safety and Flexibility
The design prioritizes crew and passenger safety. Additionally, its structure combines proven technological elements with flexibility, allowing adaptation for different mission profiles.
Key Technical Features
SHOTA meets some of the highest international standards for armored vehicles. Key features include:
Ballistic Protection and Hull Design
- BR7 ballistic protection, offering high resistance to ballistic threats
- V-shaped mine-resistant hull, which reduces the impact of explosions from below
Engine and Chassis
- Ford F-550 chassis, known for durability in challenging terrains
- 6.7L engine, capable of handling intensive operations and heavy loads
Modular Integration
- Capacity of 2 + 8 personnel, accommodating crew and troops
- Certified ballistic glass and armor, tested against 7.62 mm ammunition
- Modular integration of weapon systems and tactical equipment, fully compliant with NATO standards
These features provide both technical excellence and operational reliability, making SHOTA a versatile and mission-ready vehicle.
NATO Standards and Operational Flexibility
SHOTA is fully compatible with NATO standards, making it suitable for joint international missions and peacekeeping operations. Its modular design allows configurations for tactical communications, additional protection, or specialized equipment depending on the mission.
Enhanced Adaptability
Thanks to its modularity, SHOTA can be quickly adjusted to meet mission-specific requirements. This flexibility enhances field effectiveness and ensures the vehicle remains relevant for a wide range of operational scenarios.
Strategic Importance for Albania
SHOTA represents more than a single vehicle. It demonstrates that Albania is:
- Building real domestic industrial capabilities in defense
- Reducing dependence on imported military equipment
- Creating opportunities for future international collaboration and exports
- Developing a high-value domestic industry
As a result, SHOTA strengthens national security and positions Albania as a credible partner in regional and global defense markets.
SHOTA is not just an armored vehicle. It represents long-term vision, engineering expertise, and strategic ambition. By developing this platform, Albania proves that it can make tangible contributions to defense and security while advancing its domestic industrial capabilities.
